During the nine years that the programme ran, Barclays SiteSavers
provided the opportunity for local people of all ages and backgrounds to
get practically involved in designing and creating vibrant new spaces
from parks and gardens to playgrounds, sports facilities and nature
reserves.
The full amount of funding that Barclays SiteSavers generated for communities over a nine-year period was £26,300,000.
From 1996 to 2005, Barclays SiteSavers :
In 2004, to coincide with the first season of the Barclays Premiership a successor to Barclays SiteSavers was announced. A new £30million community initiative to create sustainable sports facilities across the UK was to be launched the following year as a partnership between Barclays, the Football Foundation and Groundwork.
The scheme, called Barclays Spaces for Sports, also provides kit and equipment and would represent the single largest injection of cash into grassroots sport ever committed by a corporate company in the UK.
