More than two thirds of those interviewed said that this land could be improved by creating more recreational space. People also said they'd be willing to help make it happen.

Barclays SiteSavers helped communities take more control of their surroundings. It helped groups of residents to transform derelict, underused and unsightly land into dynamic places for play, education, relaxation and fun.

The programme was managed by Groundwork and projects were delivered through Groundwork Trusts, together with BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) and The Wildlife Trusts.

The programme was part of Barclays Community Investment Programme – where Barclays annually invested 1% of its pre-tax profits to support social inclusion, education, the environment and people with disabilities. Barclays actively encouraged its employees to give their own time and skills to help deliver local projects.

Individual projects brought together a wide range of partner organisations including local authorities, statutory agencies such as the Police and health authorities, schools, businesses, other voluntary organisations and community groups.
